Where does cultural education happen?
Cultural education is not tied to specific buildings. It is practised in many places and in a variety of formats.
There are institutions for which cultural education is one of their key tasks, for example, art schools, music schools, cultural centres, cultural associations, museums, libraries, opera houses, theatres, play buses and participatory circuses. Cultural education is also practised in (open) youth centres, nurseries, schools and social facilities. Cultural education programmes are often organised by initiatives and associations.
Some need a lot of movement and action; others like to explore things quietly. Some like classical music; others want to learn everything about video editing. A wide variety of cultural education programmes and institutions offering a range of subjects, venues, concepts and formats guarantees that everyone can find something that suits them.
Over 50 national and international professional bodies and regional associations have joined forces in the BKJ. The members of the BKJ are actively involved in the areas of visual arts, literature, media, museums, music, playing, dance, theatre and circus. They represent various types of institutions and the full range of cultural education practices.
